Burundi - Post-Conflict Peace Building

Last updated: 28/07/2010 // The program is part of the tripartite cooperation with South Africa, with the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), based in Durban, South Africa as implementing agent. The program started in 2007, and focuses on conflict management training and dialogue session for civil society, the Burundian Government and relevant stakeholders contributing to the peace process in the country. The program aims to create spaces for dialogue and engagement between local stakeholders, to contribute to consensus-building on specific challenges and to build capacity in conflict management mechanisms and processes. Part of the objective has also been to contribute to the establishment of the national Office for Strategic Studies and Development. Due to the political and other circumstances the implementation has taken longer that first anticipated, but the results have been positive. A possible second phase of the program starting in 2011 will be discussed with the partners.
