Training for Peace (TfP)
28/07/2010 //
TfP was established in 1995. The program focuses on capacity building in African countries and institutions in conflict management through multi dimensional Peace Support Operations. This is done through targeted training of civilian experts and police, as well as pre-deployment and in-mission training in specific conflicts, policy development and focused research. The program has proved able to adjust to changing developments in African conflicts and UN and AU’s peace operations agenda. African ownership in the program is very strong, and separate from many other similar programs do the African partners play a crucial role in the development of the program. Institute for Security Studies (ISS), African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), both in South Africa, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Ghana, Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) are the main partners in TfP. In addition, the African Civilian Response Capacity for Peace Support Operations (AFDEM) in Zimbabwe and the Norwegian Police Directorate are major contributors to the program. A positive mid-term review recently carried out by a new strategy for the period 2011-2015 is now being developed.
