Project description: The objectives are:

  • To pursue innovative strategies for promoting San access to higher education and capacity building.
  • To identify ways in which research can make a positive contribution to San development,
  • To promote and further develop research capacity and competence among university staff and students.
  • To ensure that capacity is reflected in appropriate teaching and studies within and outside of the university.
  • To establish a network for San research in the region.

South Africa – Norway Tertiary Education (SANTED)

Implementing Agency: Centre for Education Policy Development (CEPD)

Partner: South African Department of Education

Project duration: 2006-2010

Total amount allocated: NOK 66 mio.

Project description: The objectives are:

  • To improve access and the retention of students in higher education from historically disadvantaged communities.
  • Well functioning institutions in terms of administrative, academic and management capacity and systems.
  • Institutional co-operation in the SADC region in support of the SADC Protocol on Education. South Africa’s higher education sector has a particularly important role to play in this regard.
