Support to South African CCS Centre

Based on the Joint Declaration signed between South Africa and Norway during the visit of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg in 2008, a close cooperation on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) has been started. Norway is a key supporter the new South African CCS Centre hosted by the South African National Energy Research Institute (SANERI). The Embassy also funded the first South African CCS Conference in Sandton in September, 2009.

Norway and South Africa has been cooperating in the environment field since 1996. The current Environmental Co-operation Programme between South Africa and Norway will be concluded in 2010, and the annual Norwegian contribution is approximately 10 million Norwegian kroner.
