Support to South African CCS Centre

Last updated: 21/07/2010 // Based on the Joint Declaration signed between South Africa and Norway during the visit of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg in 2008, a close cooperation on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) has been started. Norway is a key supporter the new South African CCS Centre hosted by the South African National Energy Research Institute (SANERI). The Embassy also funded the first South African CCS Conference in Sandton in September, 2009.

The good cooperation between the two countries regarding Carbon Capture and Storage also led to a South African CCS delegation visiting Norway in May 2010. In adittion the South African petrochemical company SASOL recently became a partner in Technolgy Centre Mongstad which is a world leading test facility for research on capturing and storing CO2 in Norway.
