Trønderkor, a Norwegian choir conducted by Thomas Caplin, will join the University of Pretoria’s Camerata, an internationally acclaimed choir under the directorship of Johann van der Sandt. Together, they will form a choir of 130 voices. This mass choir will be joined by a Norwegian jazz trio, to produce a marvelous orchestral richness worthy of The Duke’s reputation.
Duke Ellington is considered amongst the world’s greatest jazz composers and musicians. By the end of his 50-year career, he had performed over 20 000 concerts and recitals worldwide. Upon writing the Sacred Concert - which combines elements of jazz, classical music, choral music, spirituals, gospel and blues - Ellington hailed it as his most important work ever.
