The matchwinning header was produced by Kjetil Waehler in the 48th minute. Ball-watching South African defenders left the Aalborg defender all alone at five metres after a long throw-in, allowing Waehler to score his first ever goal for the national side. The Norwegians had several opportunities to extend their lead but was denied by Bafana goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs. Josephs replaced the injured goalie Emile Baron, who previously played for the Norwegian team Lillestrom.
Norwegians and South Africans will face each other again on the soccer field already in November, when the under 19 Peace Cup kicks off in Cape Town on the 26th. The draw took place at the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo, and saw the eight teams being drawn into two groups where Stabekk from Norway will face Ajax Cape Town, Santos and Boca Juniors in Group A, while group B consists of the Orlando Pirates, Supersport United, Chelsea and Eintracht Frankfurt.
