Norway supports UN resolution on Libya

Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre commented: “The Security Council’s resolution on the use of force against Libya is historic, and demonstrates the UN’s ability to take action. Norway supports the resolution. A decisive factor for us is that it enjoys support in Libya’s neighbouring areas and that the Arab League has called for such a resolution.”

Sanctions against Libya adopted

Today the Government adopted regulations imposing targeted sanctions on the Libyan regime, taking Security Council resolution 1970 (2011) as its basis. “The international community hopes the sanctions will help to stop the violence and bring the perpetrators to justice,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Norway provides NOK 50 million in emergency relief to Libya

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide NOK 50 million in emergency relief to Libya. “The acute humanitarian crisis in Libya and on the Tunisian-Libyan border is extremely serious. It is essential that the international community takes responsibility for helping those who are in need of assistance and protection,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
