Secretary General opens new Embassy building

Last updated: 10/11/2011 // The new Norwegian Embassy building in Pretoria, South Africa, was officially inaugurated on Monday 7 November 2011. In her opening speech the Secretary General of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bente Angell-Hansen, described the building as hospitable and welcoming.

She called attention to the fruitful cooperation between the South Africans and Norwegians, which has resulted in an inspirational and environmental friendly building. Contemporary Norwegian design has been used to furnish the new Chancery.

 

- These premises have all the qualities we want in our Embassies, said the Secretary General.

 

Three hundred guests attended the opening. Their host, Ambassador Kari Bjørnsgaard, received many words of praise both from her colleagues and other guests.

 

The Embassy’s Commercial Department, Innovation Norway, has moved from Johannesburg and is now situated in the new building in Pretoria.
