MOTE is a node in a wireless sensor network that is capable of performing some processing, gathering sensory information and communicating with other connected nodes in the network.
In Norwegian MØTE means meeting or encounter.
The quartet MOTE comprises musicians from varying cultural and musical backgrounds. Their music combines the worlds of jazz, modern, electronica, African, folk, world, free improvisation and classical, and embodies the fusion of all these musicians experiences and those they encounter moving towards a non-labeled genre. The intention behind the quartet is to create more long term collaborations between Norwegian musicians and South Africa in both a performance and educational capacity. By presenting alternatives to 'improvised music' in performance and educational capacities, one is also stimulating the idea of possible possibilities, in which all styles, genres, art forms and cultures can be fused.
The tour will include a performance and workshop in Swaziland which includes collaborations with local Swazi musicians.
The group will in Western Cape be collaborating with traditional African instrument musician, Dizu Plaatjies in research and performances (Oude Libertas Amphitheatre and Artscape Theatre), as well as Shane Cooper on contrabass.
MOTE will also be doing workshops and mini performances facilitated by Kronendal Music Academy in Hout Bay’s informal settlement, Imizamu Yethu (for Kronendal Music Academy) and Christel House on the 6th and 7th of December.
Cape Town’s Artscape has donated its theatre as a workshop and performance venue on the 10th of December. The workshop will include pupils from Ntonga Music School in Gugulethu and Delft Music Project. It will be open to general public.
