The Foreign Minister on the release of Aung San Suu Kyi
Last updated: 16/11/2010 //
Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi was Saturday 13 November released from house arrest.
- We have with joy received the news about Aung San Suu Kyi’s release. She has been detained in house arrest unlawfully in over 15 of the last 20 years. She must be given all the rights and freedoms she is entitled to, including the right to go where she wants and talk to who she wants. A representative from Norway’s Embassy in Bangkok is in Yangoon to follow the progress. The Embassy is ready to meet with Aung San Suu Kyi when it suits her. Our message will then be that Norway is glad on her behalf and are prepared to support her, says Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
