The academic milieu of Bergen have initiated a summer school for young researchers adressing global development challenges. Global Poverty is the theme of the first edition to be held in August.
25/01/2008 :: Norway has a longstanding tradition of commitment to global issues such as poverty, sustainable development and conflict resolution. This includes a range of excellent research centres of which several are based in Bergen. In a joint effort the academic milieu of the city has launched Bergen Summer Researh School to take leadership and boost research in the field of global development. The University of Bergen (UiB) holds the key position, with the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH), the Christian Michelsen Institute on Human Rights and Development (CM I), the Bergen University College (HIB) and UNIFOB as partners.
The wide range of partners assures a truly interdisciplianry approach to global development, with courses ranging from Global history and Economic Empowerment of the poor to Human Rights, Ethnography and Research methods. Courses will be accomanied by several plenary round- tables with keynote speakers from Business, and Ngo’s as well as social and cultural events.
Phd- students and researchers from all over the world are invited to apply with the possibility to meet with young researchers and experts in an unique international setting. The Bergen Summer Research School will 2008 be held from 7- 17 August in one of Norway’s most charming cities.
