There are 4 Norwegian Honorary Consuls in Southern Africa, 2 are based in South Africa and one each in Namibia and Gaborone.
Honorary Consuls are appointed by the Norwegian Government, but are usually nationals of the host country.
The Consuls have agreed to represent Norway in their region on a voluntary basis. Their main task is to promote Norwegian interests and further Norwegian-host country co-operation in their region.
The Honorary Consules often have dealings with Norway through their day-to day business, and can provide advice and assistance in relations with Norwegian authorities, institutions or individuals. It goes without saying that they also provide assistance and advice to Norwegians in their dealings in the host country in this. For instance, they can receive passport applications from Norwegian nationals as well as visa applications and forward them to the Norwegian Embassy in the host country
